Randi's Blog

Chains - Laurie Halse Anderson I would definitely consider using this novel (or an excerpt) in my classroom. The overall pacing of the book is quick-moving. Isabel (the narrator), her sister Ruth, and Lady Seymour (the aunt of her owner) are well-developed, though many of the secondary characters are less so; however, that doesn't detract from the storyline. Definitely an interesting work that could be used to discuss the American Revolution and slavery during the colonial era. I look forward to reading the follow-up book.
